World War I (a.k.a. the Great War or the First World War) was waged from 1914-1918 between the Allies (Great Britain, France, Belgium, Russia, the United States, Italy, etc.) and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, etc.), and formally ended in 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.
